Document Journal presents, The Smell of Us, a collaborative book between photographer Larry Clark and designer Jonathan Anderson. Shot on location in Paris, the book features the young cast of Clark’s new film, The Smell of Us, styled in looks from JW Anderson’s Autumn Winter 2015 collection. On March 4th 2014, Colette celebrated the collaboration with an in-store book signing with Clark and Anderson.

Widely regarded as one of the most important and influential American photographers of his generation, Larry Clark is known for both his raw and contentious photographs and his controversial films. Clark burst into public consciousness with his landmark book Tulsa in 1971, and has continued to use photography to explore urgent social issues pertaining to youth culture. In particular, he is interested in investigating the perils and vulnerabilities of adolescent masculinity, which he often explores from an autobiographical perspective. Influential to a generation of photographers, Clarks’ work has influenced Gus Van Sant and Martin Scorsese, and was the subject of a large scale retrospective at the International Centre of Photography.

Whilst Clark and Anderson collaborated on-set, featured actor Diane Rouxel was behind her own lens to capture the duo at work. Her images, which have remained unreleased until now, reveal a more intimate side to the project, showing Clark, Anderson and the actors interacting
