JW ANDERSON JOINS MONCLER GENIUS 2020: ONE HOUSE, DIFFERENT VOICES
When approached to work on the Moncler Genius project, there was no hesitation.
‘To be honest I was kind of waiting to be asked,’ Jonathan Anderson told Vogue.
When it came to designing the collection, the Northern Irish designer was single-minded. ‘I had the idea of an inflated archive,’ he explains, ‘it was about looking back at the JW Anderson archives and finding key pieces that we could reinvent through the Moncler Genius lens.’ The result is a catalyst of beauty and performance: gender-fluid, genre-defying pieces in uplifting colours, all injected with featherweight Moncler down.
‘I think puffer, to do it well, is one of the most difficult things to do so if you’re going to make it you should make it with the best.’ Best means ripstop nylon quilted with thermo-adhesive seals to create an elaborate pin-cushion pattern. Best means big bold scarves spiked with down studs. Best means boys and girls in frilled shorts and duck-printed gilets. Best is bright and buoyant and warm.
To celebrate the launch of the collection Jonathan Anderson turned to one of his longstanding collaborators, photographer Tyler Mitchell, to create a unique exhibition in a box for customers to take home and mount in their own homes. It’s a creative collaboration with limitless possibilities. Which is exactly how Jonathan Anderson – and Moncler – like it.
In its third edition, Moncler Genius keeps on evolving and exploring new horizons, different categories and novel approaches to communication that give a voice to personal creativity. Moncler Genius reaffirms itself as an open concept that is driven by experimentation and crosses the lines of conventions.
The Moncler Genius creative hub evolves and announces its 2020 lineup welcoming JW Anderson with his arrestingly clever vision of gender-defying fashion. The Northern Irish designer brings a unique design aesthetic that offers a modern interpretation of masculinity and femininity through a cross-pollination of menswear and womenswear. He joins the house alongside Sergio Zambon and Veronica Leoni for 2 Moncler1952, Sandro Mandrino for 3 Moncler Grenoble, Simone Rocha, Craig Green, Matthew Williams of 1017 ALYX 9SM, Fragment Hiroshi Fujiwara, Richard Quinn and Poldo Dog Couture.
